Why we need your help

Who are we?

In 1972, The Whittington Park Action Group organized a petition to Islington Council to show there was strong support to set up a community centre.  All Saints Church Hall was bought by Islington Council and WPCA was born.  Early projects included an adventure playground in the park, a nursery and a lunch club for older residents.

Fast forward to 2019 and we're now a busy centre which sees over 700 people coming through our doors every week. We continue to provide services for all ages including a community nursery for economically disadvantaged families, an After School Club and holiday playscheme for working parents, a Friday night Youth Club and a 55+ Social club.

Why are we fundraising?

Two of our spaces - Lower and Upper Hocking Hall urgently need a huge spoonful of TLC.  They have broken windows, cracked walls, inadequate heating and limited access.  We already have £15,000 in our community pot and we are over the moon with our successful 50:90 campaign.  The community raised £62K over 6 months and exceeded our £50K target!

We've already raised 80% of our overall target including a pledge from Islington Council and 7 grant organzations, that's a fantastic £888,760 out of our £1.12m projected cost.

Imagine halls with bright windows, well-heated and comfortable in the winter for tai chi, pilates, yoga and other classes to help the community be healthy and well.  Beautiful multi-purpose spaces for community events, parties and performances.

We want to transform this

into this

George, one of our fantastic volunteers, cycled over in his lunch hour from work, for many months,  and made a video to show some of what we do. Please take a look.

What difference will 'Transforming our Spaces' make?

It will mean

* better spaces for the community - beautiful halls for classes, activities and events to bring the community together

* WPCA can continue to provide services and running projects to fulfill our mission 'To provide a welcoming and well-run centre for individuals and groups in Islington to sustain and develop a vibrant community'

* doing our bit for the environment.  Improved, efficient insulation and heating  means we'll be more energy efficient and save costs

* a building that can serve the community for generations to come

Every donation will take us a step further to reaching our target.  You'll have the satisfaction of seeing a building transformed and know that YOU helped make it happen.    There is a £ sign at the end of the suggested donation amounts. If there is a different amount you would like to give, please enter it there. Thank you for your generosity and community kindness.
