Young Marketeers Gloucestershire

Why we need your help

Since 2012, 23,000 London pupils have learnt to grow veg and sell them, raising £8000 for FareShare. Last year the programme started in Glasgow. We want to get it going in Gloucestershire in 2021!

What is the Young Marketeers programme?

The Gloucestershire Young Marketeers programme will give some of the county’s more deprived primary school children an opportunity to see their seeds grow into vegetables which they sell in their local communities. They’ll learn business, horticultural and resilience skills through growing their own produce for sale.

Pupils will also learn about the food chain, waste and the community from FareShare. Through FareShare, every pound raised by our Young Marketeers makes four meals for vulnerable families in their community and showcases the achievements of the young people as positive role models.

What will we spend the money on and in what time frame?

The programme starts in March with a school assembly delivered by our charity partner, FareShare. Our Young Marketeers then visit FareShare’s distribution depot to pack an order themselves. The children are trained in growing veg from seed at their school from seed and in market trading at their local Market ahead of Sale Day in July or October. Our gardener will visit each school to ensure a bumper crop.

It’s going to cost £4,000 altogether to roll Young Marketeers out in Gloucestershire. In addition to the £2,000 we’re hoping to raise with this crowdfunding campaign, we’re also asking local and national trusts and philanthropists to help us.

We know many of us have missed special dinners out this year. Now, for the cost of just one of those dinners, you can invest in a programme that will make a real difference to local children.

Thank you for your help!
