Stephen Harpin - Atlantic Challenge
Why we need your help
Former Stocksfield Scout, Stephen Harpin, is joining a crew of eight in early November to attempt to beat the 32 day world record for rowing across the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Barbados – a distance of 2598 nautical miles!
During this attempt he will have to face significant personal hardship:
- prolonged sea sickness- cramped conditions
- hauling yourself out after two hours rest when you are dog-tired
- weight loss
- the pain when your skin begins to peel off
Each member of the eight man crew of the Toby Wallace are raising money through sponsorship.
Stephen is supporting the 1st Stocksfield Scout Group's appeal for a new hut, he says he can trace his adventurous side back to the time he spent as a Scout. The Group want to replace their aging hut so that they can expand, make the building more accessible and inclusive and provide a community resource.
