Why we need your help
The Brunel Museum Covid-19 Crisis Appeal
The doors to our Museum, housed in Brunel's Engine House and the adjoining Brunel's Thames Tunnel Shaft in Rotherhithe, had to close last March but we are very pleased to announce that the Museum has now re-opened, with all the requisite COVID19 Government guidance in place so we can welcome our visitors safely.
When our doors closed, vital income stopped overnight. The Museum is run by an independent charitable trust and receives no public funding so every donation will make a difference given that we have monthly running costs, including staff, of around £10,000.
We were fortunate to receive a grant from the Emergency Heritage Fund (NLHF) last June which, alongside our Virgin Moneygiving campaign has assured our survival for the timebeing. However, even though we have reopened the Museum, our income streams have not yet fully recovered. We have made further grant applications to help us gradually rebuild our programmes and achieve longer term sustainability, in some cases, slightly differently. We await the results of these applications in September.
In the meantime, we need on-going help towards our running costs for this incredibly important historic site, which needs regular care and attention whether closed or not. If you are particularly interested in helping one of our learning programmes, which serve our local community and are not commercially based please contact our Director, Dr Cathy Putz or our Learning & Volunteer Manager, Clara Pereira (020 7231 3840; email@example.com). A donation of £50 supports equipment and materials for a whole day session and a donation of £500 will cover our costs in full.
