Christmas Sack Appeal 2020

Why we need your help

We then arrange for the workers or the families to come and choose some items for themselves and their children on a week in December. All the items have been donated from all over the City – we are always amazed at how generous people are.

Christmas Sack Appeal 2020 - Fundraising Page

We are really looking forward to running the Christmas Sacks project again this year. This is the 13th year that we have been able to help individuals and families with Christmas Gifts.

Your help with a Donation to the project will be so valuable and appreciated!

How Does It Work?

The project is quite simple. We receive referrals from social workers, family support workers, other professionals who work with people who will be struggling financially to provide for themselves and/or their families this Christmas. We then arrange for the workers or the families to come and choose some items for themselves and their children on a week in December. All the items have been donated from all over the City – we are always amazed at how generous people are.

Donating Gifts

In order to partner with us in donating gifts, we run the ‘giving tree’ scheme across the City. Businesses, organisations, schools and churches put up Christmas trees and we provide the tags (image above- postcard size). These are stringed and on the other side will have ‘Boy aged 3’, ‘Girl aged 14’ so that people can choose who they would like to buy a gift for.

We will arrange to drop off the tags, and confirm a date for one of our volunteers to collect the donations. We will need all gifts in by 13th December. We ask that the gifts are not wrapped as the families and key workers select the gifts that will be appropriate.

We kindly request that gifts are brand new or good quality second hand.

Receiving

If you work with families or people who you know could benefit from this project, please get in touch and we will add your organisation to our list of referrers. Once we have received your referral, we will then be in contact to arrange collection.

How Can You Donate?

If you see any of our giving trees around the city, pick a card that will have the gender and age of person you can buy for, and give a gift or two! We’ll announce where these trees are over the next month.

Secondly, if you have a business, school, workplace who would love to be involved, please contact us at sacks@bridgechurchlincoln.co.uk

Subject to Covid Restrictions - Any donations, gifts (not wrapped), money towards the project can also be dropped off at Bridge Community Venue, 72a Newark Rd. LN5 8PY anytime during the week between 9am-4pm, clearly marked for this project.

Let’s make this Christmas a great one for local families and individuals who are struggling this year!

COVID CHANGES

There are a few alterations due to covid:

We will be able to offer food parcels as well as gifts this year in partnership with Lincoln Foodbank
We can deliver giving tree tags to businesses, schools, orgs but you will need to string them yourself for your giving trees
We will release a list of giving trees in November once we have it
We will be offering a couple of days when you can deliver the donations to our centre as we will be unable to send out volunteers out to collect donations due to risk assessing
We will ensure that social workers and families will be able to collect their donations in a covid-safe way from our centre in the last week of the school term
We will be exploring ways that people can give online if they are unable to get out to the shops…we’ll let you know when we’ve had some ideas!
