CSM New Chapel Appeal
Why we need your help
Support our appeal to raise money for a new Chapel for the Sisters of Melanesia
The Community of the Sisters of Melanesia (CSM) is an order of women in the Anglican Communion, training young women in Melanesia for ministry and mission. Sisters provide pastoral and social care, teaching, prison ministry, and offer support to survivors of domestic abuse at the Christian Care Centre.
The current chapel at Verana’aso, the Community’s training headquarters, was rebuilt after extensive damage during WWII. It is a corrugated iron and palm leaf structure which has sustained significant damage through cyclones and heavy rain. The chapel is structurally unstable and not safe to be used for worship, so the sisters and novices are forced to meet for prayer and services in their community dining room and dormitories.
What is needed?
The community is raising money to build a new chapel which will be constructed of modern materials and able to withstand high winds and bad weather. Architectural plans have been commissioned, but the construction work is costly and beyond the community’s own funds. The sisters have already raised £70,000 funds through local and international donations, and the UK Associates of CSM are launching an appeal to raise £10,000 towards the construction project. In 2020 we were able to send £20,000. Thank you to all the donors.
How can you help?
Please help us support the Sisters in their fundraising. Your donation will go towards the construction of a safe and modern chapel, which will serve the next generation of Sisters and ensure that Anglican religious community life in Melanesia will continue to thrive.
