Who Are We

Deeside Rugby is a family orientated community rugby club based in Banchory, Aberdeenshire with a catchment area covering the Dee and Don valleys.  We were formed 42 years ago as Aboyne RFC with a senior team and have grown to offer rugby to all ages (both male and female) from age 5 upwards.  With the move to new purpose built pitches in Banchory in 2011, the name was changed to reflect the wider catchment area of members.

In February 2017 we converted the members’ club organisation into a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO – SC047171) as part of our organisational and funding strategy.

We currently have an adult 1st XV; boys junior age group teams at U13, U14, U15, U16 & U18; girls junior squad training from U13 – U18 who play as part of the Grampian Girls team; and boys and girls mini and micro teams in all the Primary 1 – 7 age groups.

Overall we have over 200 playing members and with coaches and other non-playing members we have an active membership list of over 250.

Current Facilities

In 2011 we moved to our new purpose built pitches (and changed the name from Aboyne RFC to Deeside RFC) where we have two full size pitches and two half size pitches with two changing facilities, toilets and officials changing housed in old construction site containers.  We have full floodlights on one pitch and training lights on the half pitches that we have installed through our own funding and some sportscotland grant aid.  We have also built a new equipment shed with the help of some corporate sponsorship.

Development Plan

We have been working on a plan to create a central focalpoint for the club in the form of a clubhouse.  This will replace existing catering facilities provided from a mobile van and portacabin.

The benefits of the new building will enable us to host more club events on site as well as provide suitable catering and hosting facilties for the away teams when they attend Woodend for games.

We are delighted to have advanced plans to the point where we have been able to submit them to the local council for approval.

We currently anticipate the cost for the new clubhouse is GBP 110,000 and we are looking to raise GBP 50,000 towards this total through our appeal to the membership, their friends, family and colleagues.

The balance is planned to be funded from other funding bodies.
