Emma's London Marathon 2020
Why we need your help
Hi everyone, Emma here. As some of you may already know i signed myself up to run the London Marathon on Sunday 26th April 2020.(Now 3rd October 2021) If you know me well you will know that usually i class myself as a couch potato and would do pretty much anything to avoid exercise.
I joined the gym in April 2019 and have found a new love for working out. I really struggled with anxiety and the best way for me to control this was through exercise.
I always seem to set myself up for challenges, but this one if definetely the biggest yet!
I will be running the marathon for Headway Derby, who I have the pleasure of working for as their Development Coordinator.
Headway Derby shares a big place in my heart and i honestly love working there so much. We are a small charity with only five members of staff and some fabulous volunteers. I want to raise as much as i possibly can to support Headway Derby, as we no longer receive any statutory funding, and we are completely reliant on generosity of people out there.
Brain injury is the leading cause of disability and death in the UK and someone is admitted to hospital eith a brain injury every 90 seconds. For us these statisitcs are far too high, and we want to raise awarness and prevention of these injuries haooening to anyone else.
As i said before running 26.2 miles is a massive challenge for me, but if i can feel just a tiny bit of the struggle that our members go through each day it will all be worth it.
Thank you and wish me luck (i may need it)!!!!
