Biophysics lecturer Steven Quinn spent a year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on an ESU Lindemann Trust Fellowship, and will be running the Virgin Money London Marathon 2019 on our behalf.

‘My year at MIT allowed me to explore ground-breaking research under the guidance of world-leading experts and enabled me to progress from being an optical physicist to a true multi-disciplinary researcher,’ says Steven. ‘Without the fellowship and the skills I learnt there I’m sure I would not be in the position I am today.’

Despite being a keen runner, Steven has never been lucky in the marathon ballots. ‘The London Marathon represents the pinnacle of my running ambitions and I am delighted that I shall be running it, my first, for the ESU. I know first-hand what a difference the ESU can make and if the funds I raise help more children to gain new skills or to realise their potential in whatever field that might be, it will all have been worthwhile.’
