Friends' Woodland Project

Why we need your help

RE-OPENING THE WOODLAND GARDEN FOR OUR NEURO CENTRE RESIDENTS.
Listening to music in the garden, meeting a friend for coffee, eating an ice cream with one's children on a bench in the sunshine or jut wandering through a park admiring the flowers are things we all take for granted. Imagine what it must be like to be dependent on others to make any of these things happen.
The COVID pandemic has been difficult for us all, but it has been especially difficult for the residents of care homes. Until recently, the 120 residents of the Gardens and Jacobs Neuro Centres in Sawbridgeworth have been unable to see their families and friends, and have had very limited access to the outdoors. It is time to change all of this.
Over the last five years, our Friends' Group has created a wonderful woodland garden in the centre grounds which brings joy to our residents, all of whom have severe brain injuries. During the pandemic we have not been idle. We have planted many new trees and flowers and are now working on a wildlife observation scheme which will allow bedridden residents to watch the badgers and birds on tablets in their rooms.
However, work on a project like this never ends. Lack of footfall has meant that our wheelchair accessible pathways are now overgrown and in need of repair. The garden furniture is looking sad and in need of some TLC and we would love to build a shelter for residents who want to enjoy the woodland in the rain. Also, after lockdown restrictions are lifted, we plan to organise some group events for our residents, giving them something to look forward to after such a long period of deprivation.
Please help us continue our work in the woodland. Every little counts!RE-OPENING THE WOODLAND GARDEN FOR OUR NEURO CENTRE RESIDENTSRE-OPENING THE WOODLAND GARDEN FOR OUR NEURO CENTRE RESIDENTS.

Such an amazing space that Mum and I enjoyed together when she was a resident at the centre.

This project is so important in the rehabilitation of all the residents. Its such a lovely space for the families too. Thank you to all who have made this happen and continue to make it even more enjoyable.
