SSFA Madagascar Coronavirus Appeal
Why we need your help
**UPDATE**
We have been using the money raised from this appeal over the past 7 months to:
- Provide families in Madagascar with emergency COVID-19 grants, food parcels, face masks and soap
- Support Akany Avoko Faravohitra girls home with increased costs of feeding the girls and providing soap and other disinfectant materials
- Supporting families with medical costs, including two families infected with COVID-19
- Helping children with home learning and devising a catch-up programme
The work continues - thank you for your amazing support
Covid-19 has reached Madagascar and is already having a devastating effect.
Fearing the impact of the virus on a vulnerable population with little access to healthcare, the government has put the country in full lockdown.
Schools are closed and food prices have increased by up to 500%.
Children in our sponsorship programmes who usually get fed twice a day at school face hunger and food insecurity.
At Akany Avoko Faravohitra home for vulnerable girls, staff have given up two months’ wages to pay for food and soap for the 85 children in their care.
At SSFA, we understand how difficult life is for everyone at the moment – but there is no doubt that Covid-19 will affect the world’s poorest communities the hardest, Madagascar included.
Any donation you give will go directly to helping the families we support put food on the table during this crisis and purchase vital hygiene items.
Anything you can spare would be hugely appreciated.
