Madzi Alipo Project

Why we need your help

Madzi Alipo is one of Fisherman’s Rest’s community projects. Fisherman’s Rest has been working in Malawi for the past 25 years. FROM Wales (Fisherman’s Rest Outreach Malawi) is the UK Charity we fundraise through. We are focused on two area’s 20km outsideBlantyre in the south of the country. Our vision is to see the schools and communities here lifted out of poverty through increasing standards of education and developing business inthe area. In everything we do, we do it with the community. Our ethos is to reach out to people and give a foot up in life not a hand out.

Madzi Alipo

Madzi Alipo repairs and maintains boreholes, provising safe water for thousands of people in our local area’s. This year we have provided safe drinking water for people affected by the floods in Malawi in January 2019.

Madzi Alipo empowers communities by training committes to repair and maintain their own boreholes. Communities are encouraged to pay into a water fund to help cover the cost of repairs.
A community pays a part of the repair cost when the Madzi Alipo team fixes a borehole, this gives community ownership and care over their water supply.

I came to Fisherman's rest on my school's Malawi trip in 2018 and I was struck by the huge lack of clean water in the places we visited and I wanted to continue to help :)
