A Huge Challenge

Last year seventeen friends of Manchester Buddhist Centre got together to raise funds by doing a sponsored walk on the North Yorkshire Three Peaks. A great day was had by all and a fabulous £3,816 was raised to support the work of the Buddhist Centre.

This year twelve of us are taking on an even bigger challenge by attempting the National Three Peaks. This covers the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in just over 24 hours. It involves 800 miles of driving, 3,500 metres of climbing and covers a distance of 23 miles.

This is a huge challenge for many of the walkers and has involved months of training.

The Itinerary

- Set off from Manchester at 9am on Friday 5th July, arriving in Fort William for an overnight stay
- 4am Saturday start with the ascent of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the UK at 1,345 metres
- Drive down to the Lake District to tackle Scafell Pike before dark - 978 metres
- Drive to Wales overnight with a Sunday 4am start of the ascent of Mount Snowdon - 1,085 metres
- Return to Manchester Sunday afternoon

What is it in aid of?

The Buddhist Centre is an oasis of calm in the heart of the city, teaching Buddhism and meditation at all levels and hosting visits from thousands of people each year including hundreds of school children. The Centre is loved by Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike and is revered as a place of value and beauty in the city's Northern Quarter, offering an alternative vision of love and transformation. It is however an expensive building to run and relies on the generosity and creativity of all those who value it to ensure its existence.

Please get behind this challenging fundraising initiative by sponsoring the team as a whole or an individual walker.
