Help Save Teckels Animal Sanctuaries
Why we need your help
Gloucester based cat and dog rescue Teckels, is urgently appealing for help to keep the rescue alive and kicking into the New Year!
Our rescue and rehoming centre is a charitable organisation, which cares for and rehabilitates homeless cats and dogs and finds them forever homes. Some of these animals have had a difficult past during which they may have been abused, neglected or abandoned. Others have previously had owners who are sadly no longer in a position to look after them.
Our centre is run by a small but highly-dedicated team of people who really understand and care about animals. Our staff and volunteers work tirelessly to find the best possible homes for all the animals that arrive at the centre and to provide an environment where they are safe, well cared for and loved while they are with us. Sadly due to funds, we have already had to reduce staffing numbers, but are still hopeful that we can continue to run with some support once the public are aware of our situation.
Teckels opened in 2003 and each year we rehome over 250 cats and 150 dogs. We have held the stray dog contract for Stroud District Council for more than 15 years which means that we take in all the strays in the area and help to find them loving homes. We also care for a number of long-term residents who have been with us for several years.
One of these is Roxy (pictured above). Roxy arrived at Teckels nearly 8 years ago and has been looking for her special someone ever since. She finally got adopted on 30th November this year, after being with us for 2786 days, and is spending Christmas in a loving home with people who will give her the life she deserves.
Teckels never puts a healthy dog down, but as you can imagine, this comes at a cost, especially with long term dogs like Roxy.
We couldn't do any of our rescue work without the generosity of our amazing sponsors, donors and volunteers and we greatly appreciate their continued support. But now we are appealing for people to really dig deep and help save the rescue from closure. With less bequests this year than hoped, and fewer monetary donations, it’s looks unlikely that we will be able to survive the coming year ahead.
We operate a boarding facility which is non-profit and helps to fund the rescue centre, however this only covers half of the £30,000 per month needed to run the site. Some of the animals in our care have ongoing medical conditions that require medication or operations, while others have specific dietary requirements and our vet bills alone run into thousands of pounds a month.
We are receiving more enquiries from people wanting to surrender their pets and less from people wanting to adopt so we have an increasing number of animals at the centre and less funds to support them.
We are concerned about what the future holds for Teckels and for the 400 homeless cats and dogs that come into our care every year. We are desperately asking for your support so that we can continue to offer these animals a safe place to stay and to help them find a happy home.
How you can help
All donations, however small, will help us to cover the costs of running the centre so please give any amount that you can spare. Or perhaps you could organise your own fundraising activity or event – a sponsored dog walk or maybe a school or office cake sale – on behalf of Teckels? If so please let us know.
