Southlands Cycle 21

Southlands Cycle 21

Why we need your help

I am delighted to announce that the intrepid residents of Southlands Care Home have decided that it's time to get cycling again. Last Spring they cycled from Newton Abbot to Lands End enjoying fish & chips, cream teas (yes 2!!) and Plymouth gin on the way. This time they're cycling the length of the Thames.

On Tuesday 4th May they will be setting off from the source of the river at Kembel in Gloucestershire. They will end their journey on Tuesday 18th May, 258 miles away at Southend on Sea.

They're even planning a little detour to Welwyn Garden City to watch the show, "Cats" in the theatre there. The Chief of Police of Tilbury Docks will be welcoming them when they reach his patch before they close in on their final destination of the pier in Southend.

Last year they set a target of £500 to support the work of KingsCare and the final amount raised was £1,500. Quite fantastic! The residents have chosen KingsCare to benefit again from their exertions and have set another target of £500. Hopefully they will triple it again.

We, at KingsCare, are thrilled to have been chosen again. Our work is all around supporting  the vulnerable people of Newton Abbot and the surrounding areas. Throughout the past year we have had to stop all our activities and concentrate on making sure everyone remained well fed and well supported at home. When all the restrictions lift we will have to work very hard to rebuild all those social groups that go such a long way to lessening the social isolation of our clients, many of whom live alone. The sum raised by this wonderful virtual cycle-athon will be a boost to our finances and we are very grateful.
