The Classroom Projec is one of Fisherman’s Rest’s community projects.
Fisherman’s Rest has been working in Malawi for the past 25 years. FROM Wales (Fisherman’s Rest Outreach Malawi) is the UK Charity we fundraise through.
We are focused on two area’s 20km outside Blantyre city in the south of the country.
Our vision is to see the schools and communities here lifted out of poverty through increasing standards of education and developing business in
the area. In everything we do, we do it with the community. Our ethos is to reach out to people and give
them a foot up in life not a hand out.
The Classroom Project
Out of the 23 primary schools in our area only 1 has enough classrooms for every child to learn indoors. The vast majority of the schools have more than three classes taught outside under trees. This results in poor, under resourced learning and no school when it rains. In St Louis primary the whole school is in flimsy grass shacks, Chimwabvi primary was the same a few years ago, now it has 8 classrooms and a libarary. Our vision is to see all children learning in classrooms, therefore taking down barriers to academic achievement.
