Why we need your help
The Hanover Band (1980 -2020) has gone digital with an online festival of Beethoven Symphonies and iconic chamber music.
The global pandemic has affected us all, not least our musicians, who have suffered so many cancellations and postponement of work. To comply with government restrictions, we have cancelled all our performances in 2020 and refunded over £30,000 to concert audiences for tickets to performances that did not take place.
In July 2020, the UK Government reduced the restrictions thus allowing The Hanover Band to assemble for the purposes of filming and audio recording. Audiences were either allowed on a much reduced basis or, in the case of our symphony project, there was simply no room for an audience, as our players were obliged to be sat in a socially-distanced manner.
For the 47 people involved in our digital recording, they were all joyous at being able to return to work, many apprehensive at first at meeting and performing with colleagues, taking the Underground to work and simply wondering if their energy levels would sustain a fortnight of work.
As proved by the film that you may have just watched, despite their concerns, every single musician 'gave their all'. The performances are light, energetic, enthused and in places revelatory.
If you have enjoyed this our first digital project, then please consider supporting us in our endeavours to bring more performances to you via our website.
The Hanover Band Foundation is a registered UK Charity and your donation (if you are a UK taxpayer) will be eligible for Gift Aid.
