Why we need your help
#TheHealthcareHundred
Our Story
Following a chance encounter in late April 2020, the club helped produce a series of online induction videos for the Interim Group of Foundation Year One volunteer Doctors at Ipswich and Colchester hospitals. These new Doctors have just finished their education at medical school and are giving up their summer holidays to start their placements three months early. They are giving up their time to help all of us.
Copdock and OI CC has decided to go a step further and adopt this group for the period from now until their formal start in August 2020. We are calling on the entire cricketing family, especially in the local area to help us raise vital funds for these Doctors fighting on the frontline.
Across the two sites of Ipswich and Colchester General Hospital approximately twenty Doctors have volunteered to join the team battling against the current challenges presented by the Covid-19 outbreak, the first cohort started on Monday 27th April. In normal circumstances these people would have been looking forward to a long summer break having completed five years at Medical school and final exams, but instead they are committing to be there to help people like you or me...
These Doctors come from varying locations and backgrounds and many will be leaving the comfort of their homes and families to take on this challenge and to make this area their new home.
At Copdock and OI we want to make them feel truly valued for this commitment and to provide our support so that their journey into the frontline can be as positive and well supported as possible.
100% of the funds we raise in this campaign will be passed onto the Hospitals, (Colchester General & Ipswich General) who have committed strong governance to ensure this money is used in the way we have agreed. This has been led by Dr Hasanthi Gooneratne a consultant anesthetist, who is both a member of Copdock & OI and a parent of junior members. Hasanthi, you are a legend.
We have targeted to raise £5,000 for these fantastic volunteers in May, so we hope you can help in any way you can.
Stay safe and we hope to see you all soon at the Copdock Oval.

Virtual Matchplay (100 over matches, 50 overs per side)
Everyone is missing cricket both playing and looking at the scorecards on how your friends and other teams have performed this week.
We have created a method to simulate a cricket match using real life stats from play-cricket to create FULL virtual matches resulting in weekly scorecards for the teams involved. Please contact @CopdockOICC on Twitter if you would be interested in getting some Virtual Matches done in return for a donation to our cause.
