Why we need your help
LETS IMPROVE ACCESS TO CULTURE FOR LOCAL PEOPLE IN EAST DURHAM!
East Durham is an area of high social and economic disadvantage having been established as a series of communities dominated by coal mining but with the last pit closing in 1993.
The area lacks an established Arts venue such as a Theatre or Gallery and this appeal is seeking to provide a practical solution which will help to increase engagement in Arts and Culture.
East Durham Trust has already secured around £70,000 of the necessary £100,000, which includes support from local Councillors, Durham County Council and East Durham Area Action Partnership alongside offline donations. The proposal is seen as a natural extension to two existing initiatives: The East Durham Creates project funded by Arts Council England and the "People's Takeaway" which provides food for families in crisis alongside the local Foodbank.
Any donation will help to increase equality of access to the Arts and is gratefully received.
