Why we need your help

Re-opening of Brendoncare Community Clubs

As lockdown eases, our aim is to gradually introduce and expand outside face-to-face activities and events for members, leading to a phased opening of our community clubs across Dorset and Hampshire.

From the end of March; we will run some socially distanced walks with up to 6 and will follow the government road map for the remainder of the year offering new health and wellbeing opportunities, with a varied programme of gentle exercise and live cook along sessions; along with our current activity programme of games, quizzes, special interest talks, kurling etc.

A lot of work has already been done to develop covid safe procedures and working with venues to create covid safe spaces.

There is no substitute for the company of real people; having a reason to go out and enjoy the camaraderie of other members and volunteers cannot be underestimated.  Re-establishing our face-to-face services will:

  • Alleviate loneliness and anxiety; having the opportunity to meet others face-to-face in a relaxed, friendly environment will strengthen existing and develop new friendships / support networks with other members and volunteers.
  • Improve mental health and wellbeing; enjoying activities in the real-life company of others will boost the spirits, inspiring positivity and giving members new hope as we emerge from the pandemic. Seeing members face-to-face will also help volunteers to pick up on any subtle changes in members’ physical and mental health and quickly respond to their needs.
  • Improve physical health; actively taking part in physical exercise encouraged by the camaraderie of others in a group will motivate members to persevere and regularly attend their exercise group which is vital for improving / maintaining fitness and mobility. The one-to-one tailored support in the presence of instructors and volunteers will also ensure that members are getting maximum benefit from their exercise.

We are fundraising with the hope that that the majority of our community clubs will be back up and running by Autumn 2021.
