Why we need your help

So, after much anticipation and planning, on Sunday, we are finally flying to Ethiopia on a special mission – to run the Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa to raise awareness and funds for an amazing charity called PFC Ethiopia: www.pfcethiopia.org.

With 40,000 participants, the race is the biggest road race in Africa. Just to add to the adventure - Addis Ababa is also 2500m above sea level and the third highest capital in the world, so it will be the highest ever 10km we have run! Who knows, if we are lucky, we might get to catch up with Haile Gebrselassie....

We are thrilled to announce that after numerous fundraising events, the village of Cookham in Berkshire has raised a staggering £12,662.04 so far for the impoverished community of Gende Tesfa, where nearly every family has been affected by leprosy. The people are viewed as social outcasts and living conditions are very difficult. Our mission is to continue improving lives there.

Cookham fundraising initiatives have included a marathon, a triathlon, a duathlon, a swimathon, a school carol concert, a swim disco, a school ball and a Leap4Africa event where more than 75 people jumped from a 13 metre pole onto a trapeze. As PFC Ethiopia Ambassador, I would like to send everyone who has helped us so far a gigantic hug. It is not just about the donations either - it is about the texts and emails of encouragement we have received which have meant so much.

When we are in Ethiopia, we will also be visiting Gende Tesfa and seeing for ourselves what Cookham has achieved on the ground. I am feeling quite emotional just thinking about it! We have built a sports ground, funded the Breakfast Club and built some water-points.

So can you help?  We would love to recruit some more Ambassadors who are passionate about making a difference and improving lives in Ethiopia. We would like to link UK Ambassadors up with other projects over there. There are so many ways in which volunteers can help. Please tell everyone you know and share this page on Social Media. I will be updating my blog when I am in Ethiopia: https://diaryofamarathonmum.wordpress.com/.  If you would like to know more about what being an Ambassador involves, please email:pete@pfcethiopia.org

If you would like to make a donation, that would be great too. The money raised through the Great Ethiopian Run will be donated to crucial sanitation projects in Gende Tesfa. Thank you!
