THE HEALING ARTS PROGRAMME
The Healing Arts Programme at University Hospital Coventry relies solely on donations through UHCW Charity.
Supporters can help by making a one off or regular donation.
The Healing Arts Programme compliments patient care and welfare through a diverse range of activities, including visual and performing arts.
The programme helps to address the concerns people face when they or a loved one comes into hospital, through softening the environment, complimenting care and integrating the hospital into the local community.
The art cart visits wards daily offering patients something creative to do at bedsides. Packs are free and include painting, embroidery, games and puzzles.
Artist Led Workshops and Music
Local artists and volunteers regularly offer a variety of activities to patients in hospital, including storytelling, painting, music and poetry, encouraging patient interaction, movement and memory. Arts and participation in arts activities is well evidenced as improving care and outcomes especially for people with communications and cognitive impairments and dementia.
University Hospital has over ten changing exhibition spaces dedicated to local artists. Works exhibited are a celebration of Coventry and Warwickshire, with new and established local artists, schools, community groups and creative organisations taking part. The gallery spaces are located in the busiest areas of the hospital, and are changed regularly to refresh the clinical environment.
