UNiVIDA Christmas Food Parcels
Why we need your help
SPECIAL COLLECTION - CHRISTMAS 2020
Univida offers children in Brazilian favelas (slums) the opportunity to study and the means to help them realise their potential.
13 million people live in favelas in Brazil, in overcrowded housing which makes social distancing impossible, and with little access to fresh running water.
The lockdown has meant widespread unemployment of parents who usually work in domestic or casual employment. There is no state support and children are not getting their normal meal at the project. Wages are usually paid daily or weekly and are spent immediately on essentials so without savings, the economic impact is immediate and severe. Many are having to make the stark choice between feeding their family and risking their health by working.
In this time of hunger and real need we have been working to supply the families of each of our 260 students with a monthly food parcel. FOR CHRISTMAS WE HOPE TO INCLUDE SOME EXTRAS.
This will consist of 19kg of non-perishable staple foods (oil, rice, beans, spaghetti, flour, etc.) and will feed a family of 4 for at almost 3 weeks. Each parcel costs around £20.
We are appealing for donations to help us meet this real and immediate need.
Please, if you are able:
- Donate! - Fundraise! - Tell your friends!!
Thank you for your support
