Walking4Norfolk: Celebrating and supporting unpaid carers
Set up in 2018, Walking4Norfolk was inspired by the 100,000 unpaid carers in Norfolk who provide unpaid support to ill, older or disabled family members, friends or partners. These unsung heroes are thought to save local authority and NHS services in Norfolk £500 million a year, but they face many challenges and can become isolated without support.
Norwich Cathedral to Notre-Dame, Paris "virtually" - May 2021
This coming May 2021, Walking4Norfolk will lay on a new 'virtual walk' Challenge. Teams of five will be walking ‘virtually’ from Norwich Cathedral to Notre-Dame, Paris. A distance of 400 miles. Individuals simply track their daily walk(s), whether walking to work, walking at lunchtime, or going for a long walk on a day off. The total mileages are then added together and teams' progress to the destination is mapped, as well as logged on a leaderboard.
The aim is to have fun as teams, rather than be the fastest. Teams can be friends, neighbours or business colleagues – and charities and businesses can have multiple teams taking part. We aim to raise money for the Walking4Norfolk Fund, managed by the Norfolk Community Foundation; and teams can also raise money for their own chosen charities.
The funds are collected, managed and distributed by the Norfolk Community Foundation to local voluntary organisations throughout the county who care for and support our carers.
