Chapel Window

The Chapel has been at the heart of the School since its dedication in 1931 and remains at the heart of the School today.

Over the years we have run fundraising campaigns for specific parts of the Chapel which needed restoring. Currently both the pinnacles and the west window are in urgent need of repair and we are once again appealing for funds to help us bring the Chapel back to its former glory.

The slender stone pinnacles on the Chapel roof are in most urgent need of restoring - we have already had to take one pinnacle down for safety reasons and many of the others are causing concern. All of the pinnacles have been strengthened in the past with steel dowels but these and some of the stonework are now in need of repair.

The west window, above the alter, is the largest window and, as in the case of the south windows, requires great care and attention to ensure a high level of quality stonemasonry and glass are sourced, the latter of which is now only made in France.

We would very much like to be able to carry out this work over the School summer holidays to ensure that the Chapel is in the best possible condition as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1 during Remembrance Weekend in November 2018.

Chapel Steps

The total cost to do both the pinnacles and the window will be in the region of £33,000. We have already raised £21,000 and therefore have a target of £12,000. Any amount raised beyond £12,000 will be kept in the Chapel Fund and we will continue to add to this to build up a reserve for any future restoration work as it arises.

We would very much appreaciate any help you can give us to reach this target.

The ongoing maintenance of the Chapel is so important to conserve its major presence in the heart of the school grounds. It is the single most iconic building that all students will identify with, while at school but particularly as past Wellingtonians.
