Wild Night Out

FOR ONE NIGHT - AND DAY - EACH YEAR, WE ARE ENCOURAGING YOU TO GET OUTDOORS WITH YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND LOVED ONES
Worryingly, research shows that one in nine children in England have not been to a natural environment in the past 12 months. Instead, children are spending an average of six hours a day in front of a screen. That’s roughly half of their waking time. The fresh air has incredible health benefits. It can help reset your body clock to sleep better as well as provide a great source of exercise.
Join world record adventurer and conservationist Holly Budge for a ‘Wild Night Out on the South Downs’.
We will kick off the day with an optional walk from Alresford to the idyllic campsite setting at Holden Farm Camping in Cheriton (approx. 5 miles). And when darkness falls, the fun can continue with a night out under the stars, with storytellers sharing their tales of adventure round the campfire amongst the strumming of guitar strings. Activities will include bushcraft skills, a moth trap and bird spotting in the glorious rolling hills of the South Downs. All you need to bring is a tent, food and refreshments. There are fantastic facilities onsite including hot showers, toilets and a washing up area.
100% of the proceeds will go to How Many Elephants.

Wild Night Out is a nationwide event which has been set up to encourage everyone – families, first timers, seasoned explorers – to enjoy a night (and day) of wild adventure on Saturday 29th June 2019 on the South Downs at Holden Farm, Cheriton on the South Downs Way near Alresford, Hampshire.

We will kick off the day at 1pm with an optional walk from Alresford to the idyllic campsite setting at Holden Farm Camping in Cheriton (approx. 5 miles). And when darkness falls, the fun can continue with a night out under the stars, with storytellers sharing their tales of adventure round the campfire amongst the strumming of guitar strings. Activities will include toasting marshmallows, a treasure hunt and bird spotting in the glorious rolling hills of the South Downs.

All you need to bring is a tent, food and refreshments. There are fantastic facilities onsite including hot showers, toilets and a washing up area.

The Rough Guide:

We want this to be a Wild Night Out.  There will only be tents in the field.

We will follow the etiquette of Wild Camping:

  • LEAVE NO TRACE – leave the area in the same condition as it was discovered
  • FEED/WATER YOURSELF - there will be no food or drinks for sale onsite (there is a water tap)
  • WHEN NATURE CALLS - there will be a portaloo on site (we are not that wild) – and the main campsite facilities are a 10 min walk away.

This weekend is your weekend but please respect the great outdoors.

  • Dogs are welcome but please clear up after your dog.
  • Alcohol is welcome but please be responsible – sheep graze this field.
  • As we are all too familiar with the good ol’ British weather, please do come prepared! Pack your toasty warm down jacket or a few blankets! A cold camping trip is a miserable one...
