Sleep In or Sleep Out – it’s your shout!
Join YMCA Derbyshire for our first ever “Virtual Sleep Easy” event. Our biggest fundraiser of the year takes place every March and we ask individuals to join us to spend one night sleeping rough so others don’t have to.
This is our most important Sleep Easy yet. As the COVID-19 pandemic wears on, the need for our services continues to increase. 2020 was hard for many and especially difficult for those we support.
This year alone we’ve accommodated 378 individuals and that number is growing. In order to ensure our young people and communities receive the support they require, we need to secure more funding for our services.
When the pandemic first hit in March 2020 we had to quickly adapt to meet the ever increasing and changing needs of those in our community. Now we are asking for your help to continue providing these essential services.
What is Sleep Easy?
The aim is simple: spend a night challenging yourself to sleep rough, raising money to help change the lives of local people in Derby and Derbyshire.
Each March we’d usually be bedding down in the car park of Derbyshire County Cricket Club to raise awareness of homelessness and vital funds for our charity. Although we can’t all be together this year, we are hoping you will still join us virtually by choosing your own unusual place to spend one night sleeping rough. This could be your garden, garage or even your sofa however you can challenge yourself to spend one uncomfortable night to raise vital funds so many others don’t have to sleep rough.
Where do the funds go?
Each night we provide accommodation for 193 individuals, all of whom temporarily find themselves without a place to live. Alongside providing a safe front door, we offer the vital support needed to ensure our young people move along their positive pathway to education, employment and independent living. This includes a wide range of health and wellbeing activities, volunteer opportunities and work-based programmes.
