40k for 40 Years

Citizens Advice Bristol is an independent, local charity that was first set up on 19th April 1977.

The objective was to provide free, impartial, independent and confidential advice to anyone who needed help. On that first day, they helped 120 people.

Fast forward 40 years, and they continue to give advice on problems people face including: debt, housing, employment, welfare rights, consumer, relationship, immigration and general legal issues. The charity also aims to improve the policies and practices of organisations that affect people’s lives, and campaign to drive change and raise awareness of local and national issues. In addition, they value diversity, champion equality, and challenge discrimination and harassment.

Because Citizens Advice Bristol is a charity, they rely heavily on volunteers to continue our work; in fact, some of us either trained as volunteers with Bristol or are still volunteering!

Yet despite reduced funding, the need for free advice and their services is growing. Last year, Citizens Advice Bristol dealt with almost 33,000 enquiries as cuts to welfare benefits, stagnating wages, and rising living and housing costs continue to cause more and more difficulties for households.

So please help wherever you can, and help us to celebrate 40 years of free advice in Bristol.
