Andiamo are fundraising for St Gemma's Hospice!

Throughout 2018, the Andiamo! team have taken on a lot of tough challenges to raise money towards palliative care at St Gemma’s Hospice.

Emily and Luke took on the Leeds Ninja Challenge on Saturday 28th April, scrambling through nets and climbing all kinds of obstacles.

Between April and June, Luke successfully completed the challenge of "Swimming The Channel". He swam 21 miles in his local pool in under 12 weeks!

Jane ran a 10-mile race in her home town of Barnsley and Amy and Emily successfully completed the Leeds 10k.

On Saturday 11th August Emily completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in 10 hours and 34 minutes.

It’s not too late to sponsor them! We really want to meet our target of £1,500 before Christmas!

About St Gemma's:

St Gemma’s Hospice is a local, independent charity based in Moortown, Leeds and is one of the leading hospices in the UK.

We provide the best possible care and quality of life for local people living with terminal illnesses. We specialise in pain relief and symptom control to help people live as well as possible for as long as possible. This is known as palliative care.

St Gemma’s offers a wide range of expert services to support patients, their families and friends – not just in the Hospice building but also in people’s own homes, including nursing homes, across the Leeds community.

Our 32 bed In-Patient Unit provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to hundreds of local people each year. Patients benefit from round-the-clock care, tailored to their individual needs and wishes.

St Gemma’s Day Services, based at the Hospice, offer nursing and medical support and a range of daily clinics to people who need our care and expertise, but not as an In-Patient.

Most of our patients would prefer to stay at home during their illness. So the St Gemma’s Community Nurse Specialists, supported by doctors and the wider Hospice team, work with patients and their families to make this possible.

Patients’ families and carers are also supported by the St Gemma’s team. This includes bereavement workers who provide support to all, including children and young people.

Each of us – sick or well – has unique physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. At St Gemma’s we get to know our patients personally so that we are able to make every day count. This can mean anything from hosting a family BBQ in our gardens, setting up a jacuzzi bath for a man who had lived most of his adult life on the streets, or simply cooking somebody their favourite meal

St Gemma’s Care is available for anyone who would benefit from it. All our services are free of charge to patients and their families.
