Lindisfarne - 40th Anniversary Sponsored Walk

10.00am, 15 June 2013

Further information

To celebrate the RE Council's 40th Anniversary year, the Lindisfarne Sponsored Walk will be one of 20 walks across England and Wales. We will meet at The Barn at Beal for coffee from 10.00 and then head off, at about 10.30, to Lindisfarne. For map see: It took 75 minutes to walk briskly across the Pilgrims' Way (just over 4 miles) on the practice run so we will allow about two hours to enable you to enjoy the scenery and the birds. There are plenty of cafes on the island where food can be purchased, including the appropriately named Pilgrims' Cafe, which has indoor and outdoor seating. You may prefer to take a picnic and find your own private spot to eat. There will then be time to explore the island, the priory and other places of interest before returning to the mainland in time to miss the in-coming tide! Proceeds from the Lindisfarne Walk will be equally divided between the RE Council and a local charity, the Great North Air Ambulance, which provides excellent service to the region, where many people live more than 50 miles from the nearest A&E department. Since the Great North Air Ambulance is not registered with Virgin Money Giving, the RE Council guarantees to distribute half of all sponsorship from the Lindisfarne walk, once it has all been collected.

Joining instructions

Anyone can take part although those under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult. 'Even though the tide will have receded by the time we cross, there may be some surface water remaining so waterproof shoes and clothing would be advisable. Of course, if it's a warm day, you may prefer to plodge - to use Northumbrian dialect for a paddle!
