TWOAT Sponsored Walks 19th & 27th May

0915, 27 May 2017

Further information

Each walk will start at 9.15 am prompt from the “Lunch Box” kiosk near the “Beefeater” pub overlooking Tattenham Corner on the Derby racecourse (post code KT18 5PP). There is a free public car park behind the kiosk. The walk will go across the racecourse, past Langley Vale and continue to Headley passing the new plantation of trees which will become a memorial to those who lost their lives in the 1914-18 war. At Headley we stop for refreshments at the “Village Stores and Tea Room” We then go on, past Headley Heath, and across the Walton Heath Golf Club course, to the “Sportsman” pub on the outskirts of Lower Kingswood where we stop for lunch (or your own sandwiches, etc if preferred). After lunch we follow the line of the “Coal Tax” posts back to Walton where we stop for refreshments at the Grey Dove”. Then, from Walton, we cross the Downs back to the racecourse and the “Lunch Box” kiosk. Along the walk we will be given the history of the area compiled by a knowledgeable local historian, Jean Clew.

Joining instructions

Altogether the walk will be ten miles in length but there will be 3 points along the route where there will be transport to take walkers back to Epsom Downs Car Park if they feel they have had enough! The walk should be suitable for everyone in “reasonable trim” (from 16 to 60 plus!). It should take about 7 -7.5 hours. There will be no entry charge but personal donations would be much appreciated along with funds raised via sponsorship. Along the way there will be comments on the history of the area kindly provided by a local expert.
