LGBT HERO

Who we are

The national health & wellbeing charity for LGBTQ+ supporting over 100,000 people a month by providing trusted info, advice and group/peer-support.
LGBT HERO's primary aims include:
Mental Health and wellbeing - We aim to destigmatise mental illness within the LGBTQ+ community through information, campaigns and true life stories while advocating for better LGBTQ+ specific services. We also offer platforms for LGBTQ+ people to talk, share and support one another through various types of support including group and peer-support.
Suicide and Self Harm - We aim to develop interventions which aim to stop LGBTQ+ people dying by suicide and/or self-harming, while campaigning to increase funding for LGBTQ+ interventions. Representation matters and by increasing LGBTQ+ people in national conversations on the topic of suicide we can increase awareness and better support those who need us.
Sexual wellbeing - We aim to increase knowledge of STIs and how to prevent them, while informing LGBTQ+ people how to have a happier, healthier sex life. Unfortunately our community is still disproportionately affected STIs and sexual stigma. We all deserve the best sex life possible with the least about of risk.
HIV and HIV stigma - We aim to increase knowledge of how to prevent HIV in our community but particularly in gay, bisexual and trans communities, while increasing knowledge of the issues people living with HIV face and how it negatively impacts our community. Every person living with HIV deserves to live in a stigma free society.
On top of our primary aims, we also aim to tackle the wider health and social inequalities our community faces such as:
Alcohol and drugs
Chemsex
Sexuality
Gender identity
Trans rights
Hate Crime
Discrimination and racism
We also provide a platform for all LGBTQ+ people within our community to be heard and valued as active citizens fighting to create personal and social change. All our work, campaign and promotional material are designed, written and created by and for LGBTQ+ people. LGBT HERO recognises that without community input we can't make a lasting impact on society.
