We all want the best for our children. We want them to be healthy and happy; to have a good education, a well-paid job, to have a family and friends. But for the one in 400 children in the UK living with cerebral palsy, the reality can be very different.

‘Cerebral palsy’ describes a group of disorders caused by damage to the immature brain. A child who has cerebral palsy can find it hard to control their muscles, maintain postures and co-ordinate movement making simple activities like getting dressed, eating or playing difficult to do. It can affect the way a child interacts with and explores the world, and, without effective therapy, can hold back their physical and intellectual development.

This is where the Bobath Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy can help. Our aim is to improve a child’s quality of life so that they are healthy and active, and can participate in everyday life to the best of their ability.

We do this by using a combination of physio, occupational and speech & language therapy that is individually tailored to meet the specific needs of each child. We work (almost) exclusively with children who have cerebral palsy and this has given us a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience that are hard to find anywhere else under one roof. It also enables us to treat children who have complex or more than one condition. In addition, we train therapists working in the NHS or abroad in the Bobath approach who then go back to improve the lives of children in their communities.

All our treatment is subsidised or even free if a family is unable to find funding. By supporting the Bobath Centre you will be helping to give children with cerebral palsy the opportunity of having a happy, healthy and fulfilling life.

Cerebral palsy is for life, but it shouldn’t be a life sentence. Please make a difference to the lives of thousands of children.
