Preventing child sexual abuse before it happens
Do you know someone who is displaying worrying behaviour towards a child? Do you know what signs to look for? Could you help prevent child sexual abuse from taking place by intervening?
The Stop It Now! UK and Ireland campaign, managed by The Lucy Faithfull Foundation, aims to do exactly that – prevent abuse from taking place. By raising awareness and encouraging early recognition the Stop it Now! campaign aims to protect children from the harm of sexual abuse.
The campaign runs a confidential national helpline for people to call if they need advice about child sexual abuse. The helpline allows those who are concerned about their own behaviour and those who are concerned about the behaviour of someone else, to access the information they need to make informed decisions.
You might not be in this situation now. Hopefully, you never will be. But with one in six children being abused by the time they are 16*, it is possible.
Since 2002 25% of over 14,000 calls made to the Stop It Now! helpline have been from people concerned about the behaviour of a family member or friend. All callers were given advice on what action to take to protect a child.
Your support will help ensure the continuation of the Stop It Now! helpline and associated awareness projects which help to prevent child abuse before it happens.
