Trinity Day Care Centre, Kudunure

The first centre to open in Sept 2000 was Trinity Day Care Centre, Kudunure, Telegana (formerly Andhra Pradesh). Kudunure is an rural village about an hours drive from TREAD's headquarters in Bhadrachalam. The families live in poor conditions, in mud huts with thatched roofs and open sanitation outside although the government is gradually replacing these huts with concrete buildings. Many of the children have only one surviving parent and that parent will work long hours in the fields or labouring on the roads.

Each day up to 100 children arrive at the centre at 7am, have breakfast, morning assembly and then catch up on homework before going to school. After school they return to play, do their homework with supervision from the staff and have a snack before going home. They have an annual outing, the leavers go on a trip of a lifetime to Hyderabad, they each receive Christmas gifts, medical attention and two or three made-to-measure outfits of clothes each year. Here is what some of the children told us on a recent Friends of TREAD trustee visit:

" I would never have imagined that someone like me would have the chance to go to Film City in Hyderabad - never would I have expected it in my whole lifetime."

"before TDCC I never knew what it was like to be clean and to have clothes that werent old, torn and dirty. "

" When I joined TDCC I would wake up in the morning so excited thinking about going to the centre. "

" When I left TDCC I missed it so much."

It costs just £20 a month to enable a chlld to attend this centre - can you help?
