Who we are
Crossroads Counselling uniquely offers long-term therapy to people on low incomes in Tower Hamlets. Anyone aged 18 and above who lives, works, studies or worships (of any faith or none) in Tower Hamlets is able to access our service.
What we offer
We run a professional counselling service that offers clients therapy on a weekly basis, responding to the need for consistency, reliability and commitment - essential ingredients for trusting therapeutic relationships. Crossroads has 20 volunteer counsellors, all professionally trained and qualified, or in the final stages of their training. While we primarily offer long-term counselling, we also offer some short-term and relationship counselling.
Why we are here
Nationally, 1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health problem in the course of a year. Tower Hamlets has many of the risk factors for poor mental health and yet there is limited provision for adults struggling with deep and complex mental and emotional issues. Affordable counselling for those on low incomes is hard to find. Crossroads is one of the few agencies that provides long-term, professional counselling to people who otherwise would never be able to afford it.
Crossroads Counselling was set up by a group of local churches in 1994 in response to a recognised need for long-term, low-cost counselling for those on low incomes. Our concern is for those who feel trapped by the weight of their mental and emotional struggles, in part because of their limited financial resources. Our aim is to help clients face and understand the reasons for their difficulties and to change at the deepest level, increasing their sense of mental and emotional well-being. The key to making positive changes is the motivation to explore and challenge one's self; that is what our counsellors hlep clients do. Crossroads Counselling is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adheres to the BACP's Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
