Established in 1891, The Theatrical Guild (TTG) supports those who work backstage and front of house in theatres across the UK.

We offer long and short term financial assistance, access to counselling, contributions towards training costs, and welfare advice.

Who We Support

We support all backstage and front of house staff from stage managers and dressers to ushers and box office assistants.  Examples include:

  • A Stage Hand in Liverpool, who was unable to work after an operation on his spine, as well as being diagnosed with severe arthritis and chronic nerve and muscle disorders, was given a quarterly grant to help with his living costs.
  • A Front of House Manager in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, who was left to raise three school age children after his wife suffered a stroke and was admitted to a nursing home, was given financial support to help with his mortgage payments.
  • A Production Assistant in London, who won a place on the prestigious Set Design course at the University of Yale, was given a training grant towards her tuition fees.

“I cannot begin to tell you how much the Guild’s help means to me and my family.  We would be lost without it and are in floods of tears, eternally grateful that there is support like this available for those in need”.  Dan, Sound and Lighting Technician

“We, as a family, have had such a difficult time lately, but the kindness that the Guild has shown us has been overwhelming.  I genuinely do not know how to thank you….”.  Linda, Front of House Manager

“I am indebted to the Guild for all of your help, without which I would certainly have lost my home.  I’m just glad that I found you in time….”.  Debra, Stage Manager

The Theatrical Guild does not receive public subsidy.  We rely on our own fundraising activities and generous public donations to fund our support for beneficiaries.

Recent fundraising activities include our 125th anniversary celebration, These Are A Few Of My Favourite Songs, in the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall with Dame Judi Dench, and our biennial motorcycle fundraiser First Night Riders (

Any donation that we receive isused solely for the people who need our support.  None of the money that is donated is used towards office and administrative costs.
