Hedgehog Hero Appeal

They were once a common sight in our gardens and hedgerows, but when did you last see one?

Hedgehogs are  declining rapidly across the UK. It is estimated that 30% of the population has disappeared over the last decade and there are now thought to be fewer than one million of the nation's favourite animal left.

We do not know for certain why hedgehog numbers are declining, but there are several likely suspects -  habitat loss and development, the loss of hedgerows and changes in the way those hedgerows which survive are managed, habitat fragmentation and the intensification of agriculture, roads, garden pest control – particularly the use of slug pellets – and the increasing use of impenetrable garden fencing are all playing their part in making life hard for the hedgehog.

Please donate to our appeal to save Sheffield's hedgehogs.

We want to raise £5000 to:
Pay for hedgehog-friendly habitat work on our nature reserves across Sheffield.
Support our Nature Counts team's work with 'citizen scientists' to survey and monitor hedgehog numbers to build a clearer picture of the causes of their decline so we can combat them.
Raise awareness among the public of the current plight of our hedgehogs..

Please mention Hedgehogs in the comments box of your donation.

Thank you!
