Dystonia is an incurable and disabling neurological condition caused by incorrect signals between brain and
muscles, resulting in symptoms such as severe twisting of the neck, functional blindness and contortion of
the face and mouth, hands, or trunk. It is believed to affect over 100,000 people in the UK and can cause
difficulty with movement, eating, speech, reading and writing, and sometimes even sitting up. Pain and
social isolation are common
Dystonia UK works with thousands of people diagnosed with dystonia each year. Since 1983 we have been
providing information and guidance, running national support groups, and delivering regional events.
