Help protect our school girls

We are supporting the development of Little Shepherd primary school in Rutunguru, Uganda.

Girls’ enrolment numbers have been falling because they don’t feel safe to go to school. It is tough for school girls in Uganda; they often have to walk long distances to school, have no time to study, have to do housework (which the boys don’t) and they have no light to read in the evening. In busy Ugandan homes, the best food is often eaten by the men.

Recently girls have been attacked and abducted on their way to the Little Shepherd School, and concerned parents are keeping their children at home.  The Head Teacher, Jacinta Kasande, is allowing some of the girls to stay overnight in one of the classrooms, but facilities are poor.

Helping Uganda Schools is raising money to build a dormitory for 100 girls aged between 5 and 11, with accommodation for staff to protect them. There will be a study area, with electric lighting to allow for studying to continue into the evening.  We want to help create a lively, safe and liberating environment for these girls, where they will be supported by well educated women. The school will provide better food, safer living and raise expectations.

Thank you in advance for all donations, big and small, to support the school children.
