Who we are
GamBLE:(Gambia: Building Links in Education) is UK based and sponsors Yalding School Farato in rural Gambia according to the following aims and activities: o Trustees visit it for 3 months each year to build links with Gambians that will enable the community to improve the quality of education for Gambian children o Fund raising for buildings and teachers salaries o Funding a wide reaching teacher training programme o Building a nursery and primary school to act as a centre of excellence o Providing teaching materials from UK. GamBLE's mission is to create a school that is a model of excellence which state schools in The Gambia can emulate. We work in close partnership with the Gambian Education Office and with the Gambian College where teacher training takes place. We guarantee that all the money raised goes directly to the school and our Trustees' visits ensure that it is responsibly spent. Regular sponsorship is used to pay the teachers salaries and provide regular professional development. The school has over 400 pupils aged 3-13 years and we employ 15 teachers. Class sizes are kept low to maximise effective teaching and all pupils receive free uniform, exercise books, pencils and text books. Girls are given equal opportunities to boys and in all classes they represent at leat 50% of the register. Future plans include refurbishiing the Nursery school (4 classrooms for 3-7 year olds), extending training for IT and using the library and in 2011 we hope to open classes for 14-16 year olds.
