St George's Childcare
Who we are
St. George’s Childcare is a registered charity with over 30 years’ experience providing affordable and accessible childcare to all in our community.
How donations help
We offer subsidised places to families in need of support or who find themselves in crisis. Our service, unique to the area, plays a crucial role in improving the quality of life for those in the deprived areas of our community. We work closely with local authorities, social services, health visitors and the women’s refuge who make us aware of children who are at risk and would benefit from the structure, stability and consistency of care that we provide.
At St George's we provide a stimulating, home from home environment in which to discover, explore and have fun. We offer home cooked meals made with fresh local produce including some grown by the children in our allotment. The children benefit from a large, safe playground and garden and our qualified team of practitioners provide loving, nurturing care.
And it’s not only the children who benefit from our support. We’re able to give parents the opportunity to work or allow them the time they desperately need to make positive improvements for themselves and their children.
We recently helped a family who were in financial difficulty due to a tragic accident. Sue’s* husband was hit by a car and suffered a serious head injury, meaning he was unable to work. Sue had just given birth to their second child, but found herself the sole breadwinner for the family. St George’s was able to care for their baby daughter free of charge during this difficult time while Sue went back to work to support her family.
Sue says: “My daughter has been able to stay in a nursery that she (and we) loves, thanks to the assisted place being available. It’s been a Godsend and has helped more than anyone can possibly realise. It is something I will always appreciate and be thankful for.”
