Every week in Northern Ireland another three children or young people are diagnosed with cancer. Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC) is a local charity that offers practical and emotional support to children, teenagers and young adults aged 0-24 and their families who are living with cancer. Currently, the charity delivers eleven services throughout Northern Ireland, which not only support the child or young person who is ill, but their parents/carers and brothers and sisters also. NICFC provides additional support to young people who have a parent or guardian living with cancer through its Young Shoulders programme. Vital services include qualified youth and family support delivered in the home and hospital setting, residential and social weekends for young people, grants to ease the financial burden of looking after a sick child and the provision of respite care for the whole family at Shimna Valley in Newcastle and Pine and Birch Cottages in Coleraine. Every penny raised will stay in Northern Ireland, helping NICFC to enhance its services and rebuild the lives of families living with a childhood cancer diagnosis.
