Citizens Advice Croydon provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to anyone who lives, works or studies in Croydon on their rights and responsibilities. It values diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination. The service aims to provide the advice people need for the problems they face, and to improve the policies and practices that affect people’s lives.

The first Croydon Citizens Advice Bureau opened in September 1939, and we have been providing advice, information and help to clients ever since.  We are an independent charity, relying on funding from grants and donations.

In 2016 we saw over 5,000 clients and dealt with over 12,000 issues.   Generally clients came to us with more than one issue (showing that we are a trusted provider of advice on many subject areas).  All areas of advice are covered to a general level with dominant enquiry areas including debt, welfare benefits, housing and employment.

Our office is located in South Norwood but people can also register for a telephone assessment at Access Croydon in Bernard Weatherill House, Croydon Council's offices or access our service through our email advice service at www.citizensadvicecroydon.info.

As well as general advice, we offer specialist housing and employment advice and in-depth casework to to people iving with cancer (thanks to Macmillan funding). We also run financial capability classes which have provided over 300 Croydon residents with information on how to draw up a household budget, manage money and choose cheap utility packages.  The aim of these sessions is to give people the knowledge they need to avoid debt becoming a factor in their lives.

We are raising funds in order to continue to provide advice and improve access to our services for people who live, work or study in Croydon.
