The Suffolk West Citizens Advice Bureau (SWCAB) is a local charity which offers free information and advice to all members of the local community across Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Brandon and Mildenhall.

Over 80% of our work force are volunteers, who give their time to be receptionists, gateway assessors, advisers, administrative support, some specialist caseworkers and financial capability trainers.

Our aim is to provide the advice that clients need at the time they need it. The dual aim is to promote change locally and nationally through social policy work by utilising the experience of individuals across the country to lobby parliament and other organisations.

As well as providing free information and advice across our 4 sites, we also take an active role in campaigning to prevent problems. For example we have a team of volunteer trainers who work in the community delivering free training in money management to help people make more informed choices and to know how to get further help.

'The Financial world is complicated, and if you don't know what you're doing it's easy to get ripped off. And while I've been chomping on about getting financial education in schools, no where is it more important that for those who are vunerable like special needs schools. Therefore, I'm chuffed to hear the great work of Suffolk West CAB and that's its inspired forward thinking at the Priory School to ensure when they leave their pupils will be better equipped.'
