GIST Cancer UK
Who we are
GIST Cancer UK funds research and supports patients with a rare form of caner called Gastro-Intestinal Stromal Tumour. We work to improve available treatment options for GIST cancer patients, and to increase awareness among medical professionals.
GIST is a rare cancer and is one of a group of cancers known as sarcomas. The charity GIST Cancer UK provides a patient support network and hosts meetings providing the opportunity to talk to other patients and health professionals.
There are fewer than 1,000 cases of GIST reported annually in the UK, usually affecting people over the age of 60. There are however an even rarer group of patients with Paediatric, Adolescent, Wild-type or Syndromic GIST. Our PAWS-GIST initiative has been set up by a group of doctors, patients & carers in the UK, who are focussing on improving treatment and finding a cure for PAWS-GIST patients.
