Bath & District Samaritans is made up of a team of over 100 volunteers. Our mission is to provide support to those in distress and despair - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We rely on the commitment of our volunteers and the generosity of personal and corporate donors to keep the branch operational.

People contact us via telephone, e-mail, text, or sometime in person via our office in Bath. Our work is vital in providing non-judgemental support to people going through times of despair, distress or even thinking about suicide.

Each year the branch handles some 40,000 contacts from people wanting to talk.  Many of these callers express suicidal feelings, and a few are in the process of attempting to complete suicide.

As well as being part of the national Helpline service (Freephone 116 123), Bath & District Samaritans also:

  • attend the RUH weekly, to provide support for patients, family members and staff
  • work closely with Network Rail, supporting local station staff to reduce suicides on railways in and around Bath
  • visit Leyhill Prison weekly to support prisoners who are trained to provide a listening service to fellow inmates
  • regularly visit local schools and colleges to speak to students as part of the curriculum

Suicide accounts for more deaths in the UK than road traffic accidents.  We know that providing someone to talk to, in confidence, who won’t tell, but will listen, can make a difference.

We hugely appreciate every donation. If you’d like to support our work, you can do so via this page.  We have linked pages for specific campaigns, too.

Thank you.
