BATIAS Independent Advocacy Service
Who we are
BATIAS has been providing independent advocacy support for people with learning disabilities in South Essex for the past 20 years. Working to empower them to make informed choices, to speak out, to have their voices heard and their wishes and choices recognised. We also support people with physical and sensory impairments and mental health difficulties.
BATIAS provides advocacy support in 4 different ways:
Formal Advocacy Where a professional Advocate supports a client with a specific issue or concern. This is usually over a relatively short period of time.
Citizen Advocacy Where a trained volunteer supports a client with social activities enabling them to have far greater access to the local community. It is a partnership that once established can last years, our longest is 20 years!
Self Advocacy Where groups of clients get together on a regular basis either to provide each otherwith support or to focus on a particular subject such as health, finance, drama or sport. The groups are facilitated by a BATIAS advocate.
Often our clients will use several of our services to help them.
