Joint Action (British Orthopaedic Association)
Who we are
Around 10 million adults and 12,000 children, have a musculoskeletal condition in England today.
The Joint Action appeal by the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) aims to help patients by raising funds for research to improve orthopaedic treatment with the potential to improve the quality of life of those who suffer from arthritis, bone cancer and other adult or paediatric conditions, or to those who have endured a major trauma.
Through the BOA Orthopaedic Surgical Research Centre (BOSRC) at University of York we fund methodological support that is vital in allowing more clinical trial ideas to be developed and secure funding for them. Since forming in 2014, BOSRC has secured now over £11 million in external funding for nine new clinical trials! We also raise funds to support the development of clinical trials in trauma and orthopaedics. In 2019 we awarded funding for the appointment of three Surgical Specialty Leads to facilitate clinical trials in our specialty and in early 2021 we will be announcing new funding for two clinical trial units.
You can read more about the ways we are contributing to trauma and orthopaedic research on the BOA website at www.boa.ac.uk/research.
We aim to Keep People Mobile.
