Mayamiko Trust Community Projects

... find the way to help that is right for you, starting from as little as a £0.50 donation

Mayamiko are currently working with disadvantaged women on the Mayamiko Lab in Malawi. The project provides training in sewing and tailoring to local women, who are affected by the HIV pandemic or are carers of HIV orphans. They are working towards a recognised qualification which will give them the opportunity to earn a living: working for others, self employed or creating a Mayamiko Trust production unit.

The project has already trained groups of women in the different textile processes: weaving or knitting, cutting, sewing, tailoring, all the way through the finished garments, some of which have been featured on Vogue, Grazia, Cosmopolitan and The Guardian.

The project also provides financial inclusion education, small business training, microfinace and access to grants for business or co-op start up, as well as continuous support for our graduates.

One of our current fundraising efforts focuses on obtaining the raw materials to build a sustainable skills and production centre in Lilongwe, Malawi, where currently the Mayamiko trainees learn and work outdoors. The target is 200,000 bricks, each brick costs 50 pence.

So please help Mayamiko to help others by donating bricks for our project!

Ways to Help

But if bricks are not quite your thing, there are lots of other ways you can help us. You could sponsor a meal for £1, a sewing starter kit for £10, or a sewing machine grant for £60. If you are up for a bigger commitment, you could consider sponsoring a trainee for the duration of her course - it costs £150 and we will keep you posted on progress and you will be able to stay in touch and build a relationship if you wish.

Thank you...
